Habitat for Humanity believes everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live, both locally with organizations like Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region and globally through our Global Village program.
Globally, Habitat for Humanity Canada plays a key role in the developing world, mobilizing and investing funds and sending volunteers to Habitat program countries in an effort to serve the 1.6 billion people in need of access to decent shelter. Our global engagement work is designed to empower families to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter solutions. We work in partnership with communities and local implementing Habitat for Humanity organizations in the following regions: Africa and the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Supported by local Habitats and donors in communities across Canada, our efforts help people build better, healthier lives through holistic community development projects managed in partnership with local Habitats around the world that build and repair homes, assist in disaster recovery, as well as offer skills training and financial education. We work to empower vulnerable populations, including women, youth, and people living with disabilities with the tools they need to improve their own lives – that includes providing people with education in areas such as financial literacy, basic construction and home maintenance, and land access or ownership rights.
With Habitat for Humanity Canada's Global Village, volunteers from our area have even helped out across the world and at Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region we're proud of our global engagement.
Habitat for Humanity Canada Global Village is an international volunteer program that provides Canadians with the opportunity to support our global mission by building decent and affordable housing alongside different communities in Canada and around the world. Habitat Canada Global Village volunteers contribute in countries where Habitat for Humanity is already active, deepening their understanding of housing and poverty issues affecting the communities they are building with. Volunteer teams are composed of 10 to 20 volunteers and are led by one or two volunteer team leaders (experienced volunteers who are trained and supported by Habitat Canada staff). No two trips are the same. There are various volunteer opportunities available from building new housing to repairing homes or helping communities rebuild after a disaster. Each Global Village volunteer makes an impact in a local community and helps contribute to Habitat Canada’s mission. Not only will volunteers help a family build their own home, but their financial donation fuels the sustainability of our work and ensures that other families are able to build after returning home.
In addition to the donations that help fund our global work, we also provide volunteer opportunities for thousands of Canadians to contribute their time and build on Habitat projects both at home and abroad.
Your financial support, your voice and your time will help bring strength, stability and independence to families in need of a decent place to live.
