REGION OF WATERLOO, ON (October 6, 2022) – On Thursday, the Waterloo Region Association of REALTORS® (WRAR) presented a cheque in the amount of $43,566 to Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region (HFHWR).
WRAR hosted its inaugural Charity Golf Tournament in support of HFHWR on Thursday, September 15th, at the Rebel Creek Golf Club. The Tournament was WRAR’s first official charity event since the August 1st amalgamation of the Cambridge Association of REALTORS® (CAOR) and the Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR), and it raised a total of $43,566 for HFHWR. The donation was made possible with the support of sponsors, donors, members of the community, and volunteers who took part in WRAR’s Golf Tournament and a successful online charity auction.
“Both CAOR and KWAR had strong traditions of charitable contributions, and as a new association, we are proud to continue this legacy,” said Megan Bell, President of WRAR. “The housing market is being reshaped, pushing home ownership out of reach for many community members. REALTORS® want to help make home ownership more accessible for everyone and are proud to support an organization like HFHWR that upholds this vision”.
HFHWR partners with lower-income families to help them build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership. “With wages not keeping pace to steep rises in housing and rent in Waterloo Region, families are struggling more than ever with affordable homeownership,” said Phillip Mills, CEO of HFHWR. “Every new partnership we form can impact others around us, and for us, that focus is on families and their dream of affordable homeownership. REALTORS® have been long-time supporters of Habitat Waterloo Region. Because of WRARs commitment to affordable housing, and the ongoing support of our organization, we will impact so many more families together than we ever could on our own. For that, we are very thankful.”
WRAR’s online auction took place two weeks leading up to the event, which allowed non-golfers to participate in raising funds for HFHWR. The auction consisted of a variety of donated items such as gift baskets, household items, event packages, local experiences, team-building activities, and much more.
Megan Bell, President of WRAR, and Tracey Appleton, Golf Tournament Chair, presented the cheque on behalf of WRAR REALTOR® members to Habitat for Humanity representatives: Steve Bentley, Chair of the Board and Philip Mills, Chief Executive Officer.
