Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a decent and affordable place to call home. We work to bring our community together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. With the help of volunteers, donors and community partners, we provide a solid foundation for low-income families in Waterloo Region.
Role Description

Build Crew Lead
Location
242 Kehl Street, Kitchener
Hours
8:10 am to 4:00 pm - Monday to Friday
Time Commitment
A commitment of once a week over 6 months is required

Purpose
To carry out the stated mission of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region. Build Crew Leads are responsible for various stages in the home-building process, as well as providing leadership to Build Crew volunteers.
Reports to
Build Site and Volunteer Services staff
Responsibilities
- Support onsite training and supervision of Build Crew volunteers
- Lead 1-5 Build Crew volunteers
- Assist with hands-on work when required
- Responsible for tools and materials
- Ensure safety on site at all times
Qualifications and/or Skills
- Understanding of the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and the desire to promote it
- Understanding of the construction process
- Some hands-on build construction experience is an asset
- Ability to lead a team of 1-5
- Positive attitude
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and volunteers
- Excellent listening skills and desire to follow instructions
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Orientation and Training
- Habitat Waterloo Region Build Site Volunteer Orientation
- Completion of a safety quiz
- Construction Site Safety Training
- Mandatory safety courses as required
- AODA certificate completion (required topics for the customer service standard training)
Working Conditions
- Exposure to the elements
- Working on an active construction site with inherent safety risks
- Working independently and/or with a team

- Green patch, CSA-approved footwear & Class E –Type II hard hat (available on site)
- Long pants required

- Guide other volunteers in the building of homes
